Barbie Look - City Shine Dolls are here!

I finally saw the Barbie Look City Shine dolls at Walmart.  I went in there to simply pick up a refill from the pharmacy and should have walked right back out.  The toy section is only a couple of isles down, so how could I not take the few extra steps to see what was new...right?  Not to mention that I did not make it a resolution, but in my head, I put myself on NO doll shopping for January...mind you this was on January 1st.  Who was I fooling?!  I saw these dolls and I anxiously grabbed all four and then decided to put one back after carefully reviewing the all of the ones on the shelf to see who had the best eyelashes.  The one I put back was only because she didn't have good eyelashes and I was not planning to spend over $100 on that visit.

I proceeded to the pharmacy's checkout with the dolls and an Oreo Creme pie that I was taking to my friend's house whom I was having dinner with.  The cashier could not ring up the dolls because he said that they were not in the system.  He politely told me that I was welcome to take them to another register and perhaps they could do so there.  I paid for my refill and pie and proceeded to the self checkout.  The dolls did not scan.  The customer service rep that manages the self checkout asked me to come to her register.  The dolls still did not scan.  She contacted someone from toys who came up front (ironically) with "one" of the fourth dolls that I had chosen to leave on the shelf.  Still none of them could be scanned in.  To speed up this story, I was told (by tot department rep) that I would not be able to get the dolls because they did not have a UPC code to scan them in.  I very nicely told her that "no, I was not going to leave them and that it was not my fault that Walmart had merchandise on their shelves with no UPC code".  So I asked if I should look them up on Walmart.com.  Of course, they were no where to be found.  I was able to locate the Barbie Look doll from 2013 (AA in gold dress) for $15.54.  Ms Betty (the toy department rep) entered the UPC code into her scanning device but it came up for $19.97.  I nicely interjected that I really wanted the dolls and had spent too much time waiting on a price and that I had somewhere I was suppose to be 30 minutes ago.  Ms Betty said to the cashier "let her have them for the price on her phone".  They entered the UPC code form the 2013 Barbie Look doll and this is how I ended with with the fourth doll that Ms. Betty brought with her which just so happen to be the one that I left on the shelf.  So I was able to get them all for what I should have practically paid for two.  So there goes the in-my-head "NO" doll shopping for January.  Maybe March will be a good month to do so....

Barbie Look ~ City Shine Dolls

I love her skin tone!  I am hoping that she will match articulated Chandra's body.

My favorite dress of them all.  I love it!

Steffie's has the cutest face.

I like this dress as well.

Closer face ups

Which one do you think was the fourth doll that was initially left behind?  Hint:  She still has attitude and won't even give me a straight face.  Lol!

Have a great Monday!
Be blessed!

P.S.  This post puts me over the number of post for 2013 (2)  and 2014 (2)!  I am on a roll.

  1. I love that you set Walmart straight. I have issues with my neighborhood Walmart at least two to three times a week. If it's not their faulty register machine fighting with my (and a few other customer's) bank card, it's the lack is shelf stocking and other stuff.

I definitely want the AA girl in the gold dress. Hmm...I'm guessing you put back the blonde Mackie face? I like her dress but she's a repeat from red carpet 2014 Wave. :-/ Let us know if AA gold dress is a match for Chandra. :-)

    1. Tracy India, I was determined not to leave there without those dolls. I had been anticipating them, so I was ready for that fight. Lol!

Yes, the blonde doll was it. I didn't like the eyelashes on any of the ones that were on the shelves. I will post when I do the body switch.

    1. Thanks Marta. That is awful that they are not sold worldwide. They are lovely dolls.

  3. I just saw them in the store but wasn't ready to purchase any dolls yet. I'm glad you got them for that price! Congrats! It is always worth it to speak up for yourself.

    1. I was excited to get them for that price. I just hate that I messed on my NO shopping for January. Maybe had I said it out loud, I would have stuck to it. Lol! Probably not.

  4. I usually swoon over The Look collection, but this one and the previous are lacking for me for some reason. But I must admit that you are very brave to go into a store to shop for dolls. I buy all of my dolls online because I can't build up the courage to go to the toy department of any store as an adult with no kids in view! Ha ha, my Barbie collection is actually my dirty little secret, but you've given me more courage!

    1. I like the first ones best also and a couple from the last wave. I am not if I will keep them or or some of their accessories.

Champagne Star, I do it all the time...from the beginning of my collecting. I have never been ashamed. You should try it. It really is not so bad. If someone speaks on it, it is to ask if it is for a child. Whenever I have said no, it's for me. They usually follow up with, oh so you are a doll collector or I will sometimes volunteer that info. I really hope that you will give it a try.

  5. Congratulations, GG. You snatched these for a great price! I will have to remember to use the dot com price checking method if this ever happens to me.

    Your pictures are wonderful!

    1. Thanks Debbie. I was so determined to take them home with me that day. One of the clerks stated a couple of times that they were probably returns. I said it was impossible, because there were several on the shelves.

    1. Thank you Night Owl!! They are all pretty. I am just hoping that I can stay on this roll. I have the ideas. I am hoping for the time. My job have mandatory overtime, so I don't know how long it will last. I will keep at it as long as I can.

    1. I love getting a great deal! Wow, that sounds like a rip off on Amazon. Now, I am very happy that I bought them for the price that I did.

  9. First, congrats on winning the Walmart battle. Here in Philly, some of the clerks will fight to charge a higher price. I know an older woman who got bullied into paying full price for a reduced ticket item. Sheer meanness. Glad you prevailed.

They are wearing striking fashions. I like the AA, but I'm not crazy about the others. The eyelashes - a feature I used to like - seldom seem "right."

Great seeing your blog active, btw ;-)

    1. I would have to go to battle with those clerks in Philly too. Lol! If the price is wrong and it is their mistake, oh no I am getting it for the advertised price and will threaten to contact corporate if need be. I always mention to them that I am a great customer of theirs and spend way too much money with them to receive anything less than great customer service. I purchased a tv at a great price by going to management because of an error they made. If I am right and know it...they can bring it on. Lol!

    1. Yes, it does! I am not sure if I will keep them all. I do like all of the fashions.

  11. I never have issues with pricing whether it's Target or Walmart. I guess I've been lucky enough to have cashiers who make decisions. I've even been able to get SIS dolls for $7 when they were definitely priced higher. I bought the AA in bronze & the lace dress brunette during a Barbie Collector sale. Not sure if I like the others outfits enough to purchase

    1. I have not had too many issues. In fact, this one was not really one. They were polite and so was I, but I was also very persistent.

I will probably keep them since I got them for a great price, them maybe not since I am voting several dolls off the island this year. I need to start that very soon. Lol!

  12. You are a doll loving pitbull! I would have come back another time. You are my doll loving role model! Amazing! I love how the dolls have dresses that a person would actually wear. So foxy!
