My first....any maybe my last repaint

Thanks to Chynadoll I finished my first...and maybe last repaint.  I raise my hat to all repainters.  This was a real challenge!!  I went to JoAnn's today and purchased Liquidtex paint, a couple of brushes (10/0, 5/0), a palette to mix the paint and a sealer.  Next, I had to decide on who would  be my victim.  I had the hardest time trying to decide on what doll I was willing to mess up (lol!).  Finally, I thought of a doll that I received as a partial trade for some comissioned work that I had done some years ago.  The victim...excuse me, the doll is Janay that was an Official Designer Kit doll from Wu Con 2003.  She came with a pattern, spool of hair, and  instructions on how to reroot the hair and list of supplies needed for painting the face.  I told Chynadoll that I would share regardless of how scary the doll turned out, so without further ado, here she is.....

The eyes have been sealed

Nadja is totally amazed

"You know it's impolite to stare, right?"

"Really Nadja, it's not that serious!"

Carmen

I plan to give her eyelashes (either rooted or glue some on).  Thanks Chynadoll for giving me inspiration to take the challenge.

Be blessed,

Vickey

  1. OK I have seen worse believe me. For your 1st attempt she is not horrible. Not an expert by any means but I think next time the paint needs to be thinner. I remember repainting lips and we thinned the paint so the brush strokes were smooth.

  2. Thanks so much Dollz4Moi!! I appreciate your advice/comments. Interestingly I added more paint because I thought it was too thin. Lol! Maybe I will clean her face and try it again. I have nothing to loose with this doll.

  3. Wow, I am impressed! For your first repaint, it is very good. Your choice of colors are excellent! I agree with Dollz, thin the paint by mixing with water. It almost needs to look like ink. Also play around with the eyebrows. Try drawing different shapes on with a pencil. Then once you have the shape you like, lightly feather it with you brush to resemble hairs. Just look at all the dolls out there. They have arches and different shapes to them. Lastly, remember the eye has to have several dimensions to it. Have fun with it and experiment with different looks. Great job overall. A+++ for your willingness to try and doing a good job. Practice will only make you better.

    Blessings..
