This is for you Tracy India! "Nichelle Complexion Comparison"

Tracy India of Dolls and the City wrote a post on Monday about Model of the Moment Nichelle.  She is seeking an articulated body match for her.  I thought hmmm, I do not have one to sell, but I could possibly help by assisting her with the body complexion comparisons.  Some of the dolls are very far off in complexion comparisons and were just photographed...just because. ; )  I agree wholeheartedly with Ms. Leo that photographing the darker complexion dolls is very hard.  I would think that perhaps natural light will do the trick. I will have to give it a try.   What do you think?  Tracy India, I hope this helps.

Top Model Nikki and Model of the Moment Nichelle

Dynamite Girl (FR) and Model of the Moment Nichelle

Nadja (FR) and Model of the Moment Nichelle

Alvin Ailey and Model of the Moment Nichelle

SIS Pastry Chandra and Model of the Moment Nichelle

Quiet Storm Annik (FR) and Model of the Moment Nichelle

I my opinion, Quiet Storm Annik matches her to the tee.  Nadja is a very close match.  I hope she will find one without paying two arms and two legs...no pun intended.  If only Mattel would listen.

Be blessed!

Vickey

  1. Very much enjoyed seeing all your dark and lovely dolls. A note about photographing dolls with dark complexions -- cameras are programmed to take the lightest area in the frame as the focal point. You can use manual rather than auto focus to override this programming to a degree. Digital cameras also do not handle high contrast well. Choosing wardrobe and background colors helps image quality a lot. A medium gray rather than pure white background cuts down on some of the contrast and improves focus. I often use a piece of silver gray poster board. I think these ladies would also look good in front of backgrounds in the cream to tan range.

In real life white outfits on dark and lovely dolls (or people) are stunning. It is very difficult to photograph this color combination without a sophisticated lighting set up. Deep jewel tones or cream to tan earth tones will allow the camera to focus on the doll's features. I think they would also be "pretty in pink" -- your favorite.

    1. Hi Limbe dolls! Thanks so much for the info on shooting the darker skin dolls. I can't wait to try it. I love seeing dark skin in white especially on humans. I also appreciate your nice comments. Hobby Lobby has matte board on sale(50% off) this week. I need to pick up the silver gray board.

    2. Hi Limbe dolls,I too enjoyed the comparisons, and have been looking for articulated dark skin bodies. I recently purchased my first FR Nadja on thedollpage.com for a reasonable price. This web site seems to have much better prices than ebay. I will also be trying your photography techniques. Thanks.

  2. I love the background colors in these photos. I agree that QS Annik is the best match with Nadja running a close second.

It would be nice if there were more dark-skinned articulated doll choices from which to choose.

I hope Tracy India is able to find a body donor for MOMN soon without having to spend and arm and a leg :-).

    1. Thanks Debbie! It is a poster board that I picked up at Walmart for less than $2. I pulled out a board that I felt would show the dolls.

Mattel really should give us articulation in this skin tone. They would probably sell out.

  3. Thanks, Vickey, for sharing the comparison of these darker complected fashion dolls. I had a Nadja and I would like that Quiet Storm Annik (someday ;-D). Interesting to find out that they were not the same complexion. Do you know if Monsieur Z Flaunt It doll is as dark as MotM Nichelle? The Integrity dolls seem to have a slight grayish cast to their complexions.

    1. Hey D7ana, the MZ Flaunt It would definitely be too grayish. These two girls, in my opinion, would be the only possible matches so far. It's a bummer too because I think the new Annik's complexion is lighter now. :( What are these doll companies doing? SMH

    2. Hi D7ana! Thanks so much! I thought they were both the same complexion also until I pulled them out last night. I do not have Flaunt It, but I do have Wild. She is a close match for TM Nikki.

  4. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! You've got an amazing collection of girls you have there! Girl, start doing those photo stories, I'm curious who will show up next, LOL.

I couldn't tell whether Nadja was a perfect match until now. I figured Quiet Storm would work out fine. From what I know of the pricing still circulating for Quiet Storm, it will cost me an arm and a toe, at least...to purchase her.

Hypothetically, if you did a "body swap" using Nadja's body, would the complexion bug you or would it work for you? I think I can still find Nadja, used at an ok price. But Annik will be tough.

Thanks so much Vickey, for doing this! :)

    1. Hi Tracy India! Thank you and you are very welcome girl!! : ) I am trying to get things together so that I can do photo stories on a regular.

Annik is the perfect match but Nadja would definitely work. I hope you are able to find a doll/body for a good price. I will definitely keep an eye out for you as well.

  16. WOW! Great Post! Love the pictures of the dolls! You answered my questions. The body match for MOTM Nichell will be pricy and I hope she won't be too tall. Right now mine is on a POSA body.

Hey limbe! Thanks for the tips! I can use that info.
